DLR has stopped all cooporation with Russia. There are several projects.

Germany last year arrested and charged a Russian citizen with spying for Russia, prosecutors said on Thursday, alleging he had passed information on Europe's Ariane space launcher vehicle to handlers from Russian intelligence. Federal prosecutors said the suspect, identified only as Ilnur N., worked as a researcher at a Bavarian university until his arrest in June last year. He has been in custody since and was charged on Dec. 9.

"The agency's interests particularly focused on the various stages in the development of the European space launcher Ariane and the accused's research into tools.

An official familiar with the matter said the suspect worked at the University of Augsburg, a centre for aerospace research. The city is also home to large parts of the manufacturing for the next-generation Ariane 6 launch vehicle.

Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) first approached the suspect no later than autumn of 2019, the prosecutors said in a statement, adding he had told the SVR he was prepared to cooperate with them.

Jointly owned by Airbus and France's Safran, ArianeGroup is one of the best-established players in the fast-growing global launch market, where competition between players like Russia's Roskosmos and private sector upstarts like Jeff Bezos Blue Origin and Elon Musk's SpaceX is fierce.

From November 2019 onwards, the suspect regularly met a Germany-based handling officer, repeatedly handing over information on research projects, receiving 2,500 euros ($2,800) in cash, the prosecutors said.

The sum, modest compared to the risk of a prison sentence, could suggest that the information provided was publicly available or gossip of limited value, the official said.

Germany is a frequent target of Russian intelligence operations, Germany's counter-espionage agency has said.

Tyskland har puttet et rum-observatorium på pause:

A German-built space telescope making the largest ever map of black holes in the universe has been switched off after Germany halted all science cooperation with Russia to protest that country's invasion of Ukraine.

The black hole-hunting telescope, called eROSITA, launched in 2019 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard the Russian-built Spectrum-Roentgen-Gamma satellite. The mission was jointly funded by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Russia's space agency Roscosmos.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for Germany's Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, which built and operates eROSITA, told Space.com in an email that the telescope was "placed into safe mode during ground contact on Saturday, February 26."

As a result, the Russian segment of the station – which helps correct its orbit – could be affected, causing the 500-tonne structure to "fall down into the sea or onto land", the Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin wrote on Telegram.

The Russian segment ensures that the station's orbit is corrected (on average 11 times a year), including to avoid space debris.

Rogozin said the launcher used for take-off had been "under US sanctions since 2021 and under EU and Canadian sanctions since 2022".

1: N° 4–2022: Decisions from the r2022 Space Summit

https://www.esa.int/Newsroom/Press_Releases/Decisions_from_the_2022_Space_Summit

EU og ESA samarbejde

European leaders reaffirmed their strong political support for the three “accelerators” identified by ESA to address challenges – from the climate change induced crisis and their consequences to threats to crucial European infrastructure in space and on Earth.

1: “Space for a green future” aims to use data derived from Earth observation satellites to help Europe act to mitigate climate change and to support reaching a carbon-neutral economy by mid-century.

2: “Rapid and resilient crisis response” seeks to better use space data, cognitive cloud computing and intelligent interconnectivity in space to support those in charge to provide the vital responses to crisis on Earth.

3: “Protection of space assets” will contribute to prevent damage to the European space infrastructure and avoid disruption to its economically vital infrastructures such as power supplies and communications links due to space weather conditions.

Summary of

The number of satellites in space has increased greatly due to the development of reusable launchers and small satellites, and private investments that have lowered costs.

Therefore, the risk of collisions and the number of collision avoidance manoeuvers will increase, requiring the EU to urgently develop an approach to space traffic management.

This initiative aims to develop an EU strategy to ensure a safe and sustainable use of space while preserving the EU space industry’s competitiveness.

Type of act: Joint communication

Jeg faldt lige over denne sætning:

Ideally, shared rules on how to behave in space should be developed at international level (cleaning space junk, rules of the road for satellites, etc.), yet there is little appetite today for more stringent measures.

Josef Aschbacher (Director General ESA) said: “I am very happy to accept President Macron’s proposal to establish a high-level advisory group on ‘human space exploration for Europe’. This decision will shape what Europe will look like in the decade to come. We have to involve experts from all walks of life and mainly from non-space, for example historians, economists, geo-political experts, explorers on Earth, and philosophers to fully grasp all its implications and help us take the right decision.”

Josef Aschbacher said: “Europe faces urgent and unprecedented societal, economic and security challenges – from climate change causing floods and fires to cyberattacks on our vital infrastructure. Working closely with the EU and private companies, ESA will ensure that Europe fully realises the potential for space to contribute to tackling these challenges. At the same time, Europe must seize the opportunity to join the leading spacefaring nations through developing a sovereign capability for human exploration and bring Europe’s space ambitions to the next level.”

Dette her var før Rusland invaderede Ukraine. Om et år er der endnu et Rum-topmøde ESA+EU.

2: Andreas Mogensen skal i rummet igen!

https://videnskab.dk/teknologi-innovation/andreas-mogensen-derfor-bliver-min-nye-rumrejse-en-helt-anden-oplevelse

3: 5000 Exoplaneter:

Discovery Alert!

65 new worlds push the number of exoplanets confirmed by @NASA above 5,000.

This represents 30 years of exploration and discovery by astronomers worldwide using telescopes on the ground and in space. We are living in an age of discovery!

Der er et 3D billede af hvor disse planeter er:

De første 2 planeter opdaget i 1992. Den 3 i 1994. Alle 3 fra det samme system omkring en millisecond pulsar. 2009 Kepler space telescope -> 3000 planeter. Og nu er vi nået op på 5000.
