Meta & Fysikken: Afsnit 67: James Webb Space Telescope Special

1) Galakse Hoben SMACS 0723: Afstand: 4.6 billion/milliard lysaar

Hubble og JWST sammenlignings billede:

-Webb’s image is approximately the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length

Gravitationel lense:

-The combined mass of this galaxy cluster acts as a gravitational lens, magnifying more distant galaxies, including some seen when the universe was less than a billion years old.

The powerful gravitational field of a galaxy cluster can bend the light rays from more distant galaxies behind it, just as a magnifying glass bends and warps images.Other features include the prominent arcs in this field.

Farverne i billede betyder:

-This deep field, taken by Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam), is a composite made from images at different wavelengths, totaling 12.5 hours (Hubble Deep field var 14 dage observationstid)

Blue galaxies contain stars, but very little dust. The red objects in this field are enshrouded in thick layers of dust. Green galaxies are populated with hydrocarbons and other chemical compounds.

Meget fjerne Galakser:

Webb’s MIRI image offers a kaleidoscope of colors and highlights where the dust is – a major ingredient for star formation, and ultimately life itself.

JWST Southern Ring Nebula:

https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/Webb/Webb_captures_dying_star_s_final_performance_in_fine_detail

JWST WASP - 96

JWST Stephan’s Quintet:

https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/Webb/Webb_sheds_light_on_galaxy_evolution_black_holes

Together, the five galaxies of Stephan’s Quintet are also known as the Hickson Compact Group 92 (HCG 92). Although called a “quintet,” only four of the galaxies are truly close together and caught up in a cosmic dance. The fifth and leftmost galaxy, called NGC 7320, is well in the foreground compared with the other four. NGC 7320 resides 40 million light-years from Earth, while the other four galaxies (NGC 7317, NGC 7318A, NGC 7318B, and NGC 7319) are about 290 million light-years away.
